Paper Description
This paper is designed to investigate a central question How can society be inclusive for all?
Through taking an intersectional perspective this paper aims to develop awareness and knowledge of inclusion as a theory and in practice. It aims to engage students in developing a critical perspective on what inclusion means and how it can be achieved within society. Models for community capacity building for inclusion will be presented along with projects that exemplify community inclusion. There will be a focus on learning through the lived experiences of people with disabilities and work that has been done collaboratively to co-develop inclusive approaches and projects in education, health, recreation and sport, employment, community and broader areas of citizen participation.
Paper Structure
This is a NET paper undertaken online over a 12 week teaching period. The learning materials are available on the paper Moodle along with links to the reading list, assessment tasks and discussion forums. There are six topics that have related readings, online links to additional resources and opportunities for regular discussions and sharing of ideas. A zoom session will be held every two weeks. This session will be recorded and uploaded on the paper Moodle for those who are not able to attend.
Key readings will be used to underpin the topic zoom sessions and discussion forums.
Engagement with the online learning materials and completion of readings are essential. Students are also required to engage with the discussion forums to deepen understanding of key concepts and to keep up with the flow of the paper as it engages with current and contemporary work relating to inclusion. A reflective journal is also used in this paper which is marked along with discussion participation.
